The QED Reference Optical Quartz is QED’s superior Toslink Optical Digital Audio Interconnect Cable that has been made using real glass. One of the first of its kind, with 210 separate boro-silicate glass fibres implemented throughout, this cable will exceed the requirements that high-definition multi-channel digital audio demands. The Quartz will allow you to experience absolutely astounding sound when connecting your digital-to-analogue converters, televisions, Blu Ray players and CD players to an amplifier or receiver. This has been made possible thanks to this cable’s much higher bandwidth and low attenuation when compared to more conventional cables (merely 1/10th of traditional acrylic fibres). The bandwidth in question comes in at 150MHz and is completely unaffected when the cable is bent.
Incorporating QED’s new Glasscore technology, the QED Reference Optical Quartz employs multiple fibre bundles of ultra-fine boro-silicate glass optical fibres (GOF) that measure only 50um each. These make up the 1mm diameter that is required in order to conform to Toslink’s standard connectors. Because the fibres within this cable are so slim, the different path taken by the light rays become similar in length, virtually eliminating the timing error and introducing lower levels of distortion and jitter. Therefore, bandwidth is increased and data transmission becomes much more accurate. These fibres are coated by a cladding of low Refractive Index in order to more precisely guide the light signal.
The QED Reference Optical Quartz vastly exceeds the demands for high-definition multi-channel HD digital audio when compared to more conventional optical cables employing acrylic glass. Quartz glass is able to deliver signals up to and including 24bit/192kHz with an impressively low amount of jitter. This cable is able to provide you with a greater bandwidth than is possible from a single acrylic glass fibre with 1/10th of the attenuation.
Ultra-Low Jitter and Loss
The team at QED have managed to calculate that distortions caused by timing differences between different light paths (jitter) in most conventional optical cables can sometimes reach up to 145ps. But with the new QED Reference Optical Quartz, these timing errors have been virtually eliminated, offering less distortion, lower levels of distortion, and ultra-low loss at an impressive < 0.03 dB/m.
