What Is Airloc
Airloc is a cold-weld system that permanently attaches QED Forté banana plugs or spade terminals to our overall range of speaker cables.
One of the main reasons for choosing a QED speaker cable is the superior D.C. Resistance characteristics offered by our exclusive use of 99.999% oxygen-free copper conductors. It seems a shame to ruin all this attention to detail by neglecting the most vulnerable area of the speaker cable chain. The physical interface between cable and amplifier or speaker terminals.
The surface of a typical copper strand is very rough when seen under a microscope. Using normal screw-type terminals—as found on binding posts or cheap banana plugs—only a relatively small number of places make electrical contact.
Outstanding Termination
Using a cold weld crimp type termination, Airloc QE1830 spades. Squash the conductors and plug together to improve the contact area and reduce resistance.
The joint’s longevity is due to its low oxidation resistance. When all air is removed, the contact surfaces do not oxidise. This condition remains until the end of the cable’s life. The cable and the plug are transformed into a single solid metal piece in cold welding.
Easy Installation
Even someone who knows nothing about speakers can use a spade plug to connect the cable to the speaker. All you need to do is push your cable inside the speaker and crimp it using the Airloc method, and that’s it. It’s as simple as that.

Under the subheading Easy Installation, the text says ” all you need to do is push the cable inside the speaker” ??? Obviously a Typo which a proof reader in the days before “spellchecker” would have corrected.
I, for one, will not be pushing any cable into my QUAD Z1 speakers. I’ll stick with my Mission banana plugs for the foreseeable future.
