-Rega RB700 Tone Arm Satin Silver - Product Description

The Rega RB700 Tone Arm is fitted as standard on the award winning Rega P5 and P7 turntables the Rega RB700 Tone Arm offers exceptional performance and build quality. The aluminium tube has been specially coated in a unique finish whilst remaining low mass. The tonearm assembly is concentrated around precision, hardened stainless steel and miniature ball races of the highest quality. The bearings fit on to ground shafts and into the tonearm using interference fits. This means that no adhesive is required and therefore none of the associated (component - adhesive - component) losses in rigidity prevail. It is fitted to the plinth by a 3-point fixing which CNC is machined out of a single solid block of Stainless steel. This provides the strongest most rigid base structure possible for the tonearm and causes less stress on the plinth and the bearing housing, and therefore the least possible resonance.

The Rega RB700 Tone Arm is designed to make cartridges work harder, maximising the cantilever acceleration and travel as much as possible with the utmost accuracy within the cartridge body thus providing new levels of information. Rega calls its Rega RB700 Tone Arm "one of the highest performance tonearms produced by mankind." The RB700 is a handmade instrument designed to extract the most information from vinyl recordings as is possible.

The Rega RB700 Tone Arm improves greatly on its critically acclaimed predecessor, the RB600. The aluminium tube has been specially coated in a unique finish, and the entire bearing housing has been redesigned and is now manufactured to even higher tolerances.

The tonearm tube itself (which is a one piece silicone / aluminium casting) is very rigid, while being low mass. The tonearm assembly is concentrated around precision, hardened stainless steel, miniature ball races of the highest quality. The bearings fit on to ground shafts and into the tonearm using interference fits. This means that no adhesive is required and therefore none of the associated (component - adhesive - component) losses in rigidity prevail.

The arm is fitted to the plinth by a three-point mounting which is CNC machined out of a single solid block of stainless steel. This provides the strongest most rigid base structure possible for the tonearm and causes less stress on the plinth and the RB700's bearing housing -- and therefore the least possible resonance.

The job of a tonearm is to hold the cartridge body both accurately and rigidly. It must be in a position where the cantilever of the cartridge will reproduce all of the information in the groove of a record. To be able to do this, the friction levels of the bearings in the tonearm must be very low so that the cartridge will follow the spiral of a recording without affecting the signal. To achieve this result, the RB700 uses the highest quality bearings available, (ordinarily used in navigational gyroscopes), that are then graded both by hand and by aural examination. This ensures that Rega has the smoothest and quietest ball races.

The precision stainless steel shaft onto which these bearings fit is ground to a tolerance of within 5 microns (one micron being 1/1000 of a millimetre). The bearings are then selected and fitted onto shafts by hand. This is a highly skilled and time-consuming process which results in the fit between the shaft, bearing, and one-piece arm tube being 'interference fitted' with zero tolerance.

  • Technically correct levels of effective mass.
  • High quality appropriate materials used throughout.
  • Unique bearing assembly's offering high levels of rigidity (zero-play) combined with very low bearing friction
  • Unique anti skate mechanism which provide ample power whilst introducing no bearing friction.
  • Very high levels of stability whilst tracking the record resulting in market leading performance in dealing with record warps large or small.
  • Bespoke manufactured wiring throughout offering ultimate performance.
