-Project Xtension 10 Turntable (Exc Cartridge)

The new Project Xtension 10 Turntable is the latest iteration in the Xtension range. This range was introduced in 2011 as Project’s money-no-object turntable, and with the Xtension 10, we find a turntable that has been designed to celebrate 20 years of Project expertise, creating a more accessible turntable whilst lowering the price tag even further.

Design and Construction

The Xtension 10’s structure uses a combination of “mass loaded” and “floating turntable” design characteristics, using both principles where other high-end turntables would only incorporate one or the other. To achieve this, the thick MDF chassis is filled with metal sand in order to make it very high-mass and anti-resonant, it is then placed onto four powerful magnetic feet. This allows the Xtension 10 to “float” above the stand it sits on.

The Xtension 10 Turntable’s platter is very similar to the platter found on the RPM 10 Carbon Turntable, and has been directly taken from the Xtension 10’s bigger brother, the Xtension 12. The platter itself is has been precision balanced and constructed using a purpose-chosen metal alloy that has been damped on the inside using Sorbothane, resulting in a resonance-free, heavy platter that, with the assistance of added magnetic suspension, will make almost no sound when running on an inverted ceramic ball-bearing.

Operation and Speed Control

Operation of the Xtension 10 has been made as simple as possible through the integrated speed control. This speed control offers a clean and regulated power signal to the high-grade motor, meaning you can switch between 33, 45, and 78RPM speeds with ease. The Xtension 10’s step-function will also allow you to fine-tune the speed in increments in order to achieve perfect playback of all your favourite records.

10cc Evolution Tonearm

Sold with Project’s 10CC Evolution Tonearm pre-installed, the Xtension 10 will provide you with only the best quality reproduction of all of your vinyl discs. Constructed using carbon fibre, the Evolution’s arm tube is efficient in its design, ensuring parasitic vibrations are led away from the cartridge and through to the heavy anti-resonant assembly, thus guaranteeing precise cartridge tracking.  The Evolution tonearm has been conveniently mounted upon a sheet of Sorbothane in order to add an extra level of isolation from the chassis.

This turntable will produce a truly toe-tapping musical experience that will leave the listener astounded, and a price tag so reasonable it will belie its performance. A removable dust cover is supplied when you buy the Project Xtension 10 Turntable, ensuring your turntable is protected from intruding dust and remaining attractive in so doing. To complete the package, a heavyweight puck is included in the box.
