The ribbon, being a sandwich, is therefore capable of withstanding high-powered amplifiers. The voice coil and sound radiator are combined in a single component because the ribbon is fully immersed in a powerful magnetic ​‍​‌‍​‍‌​‍​‌‍​‍‌field.

This​‍​‌‍​‍‌​‍​‌‍​‍‌ ribbon tweeter is matched with Quad’s Kevlar-coned bass and midrange drivers by means of intricate crossover networks such as the one shown here. Whereas the standmount speakers use exactly adjusted, rear firing reflex ports to enhance the bass. The floorstanders are odd in that they have three ABRs (Auxiliary Bass Radiators) instead of a port.

These passive, rear-firing bass units help the main drivers to achieve a bass response as low as 35Hz while providing a faithful and clear rendition of the instrument ​‍​‌‍​‍‌​‍​‌‍​‍‌fundamentals.
