Quad Artera Pre Amplifier is the premiere to the Artera series and is loaded with Quad’s revered analogue sound controls. The EQ filters can be adjusted for each input and there is a low noise Class A phono stage that may be used for either MM or MC.
Quad Artera Pre Amplifier
To a great extent, the Artera Pre takes advantage of the company’s deep technical heritage and at the same time it is completely updated for today. This is the first dedicated analogue preamplifier that has been added to the flagship Artera series of solid-state audio electronics from Quad.
Quad Artera Pre Amplifier marks the return of a well-known feature of Quad. The Tilt control which was originally introduced in 1982 on the legendary Quad 34 preamplifier,
Unmatched Audio Fidelity
The Tilt control is a Quad exclusive that offers a subtle, precise, and consistent way to adjust the sound in order to compensate for different recordings and the acoustic anomalies of different rooms. It was highly praised when it was launched and is still regarded as a great feature today.
But it has not been included in any new Quad product for a decade. The Artera Pre is the perfect time for its comeback. The new Artera preamp adds yet more analogue bass filters to the Tilt function for extra sound tailoring. Which can be handy for various purposes.
Tilt Control
Tilt control changes the lows and highs of the frequency spectrum at the same time. This means bass is reduced and treble is increased, or bass is increased and treble is reduced, in increments of 1dB. Basically, it rotates the sound frequency range along a 700Hz axis. Altering the sound balance to get a ‘warmer’ or ‘cooler’ sound, without changing the ‘volume’ or ‘colouring’ the sound.
You could set up a single line-level RCA input for AV bypass. Thus making it possible to use the unit in combination with an external AV processor.
The preamp outputs come in three different types. Balanced XLR, single-ended RCA, and fixed-level RCA (the latter without volume control). There are also two 12v trigger outputs for power control of the devices together with the preamp.
Phono Pre Amplifier
Vinyl enthusiasts and headphone users really get the best treatment with dedicated, top quality circuits. The Quad Artera Pre low noise, Class A phono stage is configurable for both MM and MC cartridges. While a discrete, Class A output stage with low output impedance of an integrated headphone amplifier can even drive the toughest of loads.
The Quad Artera Pre is signing up with the Quad Artera Play+ CD Player/DAC/preamp. Artera Stereo power amp and Quad Artera Solus all-in-one system in Quad’s flagship range of solid stage audio electronics.
Features & Benefits
- High-Quality Sound: The unit is capable of getting the music loud to very high levels and yet without distorting the sound.
- New Style: It can be used with the latest. Most convenient devices and systems.
- Solid Construction: Built so as to be hardly susceptible to wear and tear. At the same time to have a very long working life.
- Versatile Interface: Via different connectors it can be easily matched with a wide variety of input and output devices.
- Compact Size: It is the best size to be packed in a tight place and it is also very good in performance, isn’t it?
- Simple Usage: The operation control is very easy and any person at any knowledge level can figure it out.
Summary of the Quad Artera Pre Amplifier
The Quad Artera Pre Amplifier low-noise, Class A phono stage is configurable for both MM and MC cartridges. While an integrated headphone amplifier features a discrete, Class A output stage with low output impedance to drive even the toughest of loads. Four stereo RCA inputs are provided–three line-level and one phono–plus one balanced XLR.
All of the inputs are capable of running in indirect mode if desired. Which means that they will bypass all other circuitry. Thus providing the shortest possible signal path from input to output. Unlike many preamps with balanced inputs, Artera Pre’s four-channel volume control keeps the audio signal fully balanced throughout.
The gain (sensitivity) of each input can be adjusted in 0.5dB increments from -8dB to +8dB. Which allows the users to perfectly level-match different sources.
A Gateway to Pure Sound
