Outstanding Sound Reproduction

A centre channel speaker in a 5.1 home cinema set-up plays a crucial role in conveying realistic surround sound. More than supporting the left and right speakers, a centre channel anchors the dialogue while seamlessly part of the soundstage.

As a key player in the Concept 5.1 package, the Concept 90 is our most advanced and striking centre speaker. It features many anti-resonance technologies in its Concept stablemates to deliver focused but captivating cinema sound.

Controlled Power

Designed as an integral part of the cabinet’s mechanical structure, the 5-inch mid/bass and 1.0-inch tweeter drivers are new, ground-up designs specifically for the Concept 90, 50, and 90 speakers. The drive units are fixed to a remarkably stiff 3mm aluminium baffle plate before fitting to the cabinet. This gives the correct acoustic seal, dampens vibrations, and minimises structural coupling.

Elsewhere, the tweeter is hermetically sealed and mechanically isolated (floating) from the baffle. Which means lower distortion and a lower crossover point for seamless integration through the crossover region of the Concept 90 centre. At 30.5mm, the larger mid/bass driver voice coil increases motor strength, resulting in a 50% increase in power handling over a comparable driver with a 25.4 mm voice coil.

Lastly, the crossover mounts to the isolation base, keeping it free of sound-affecting vibrations and away from electromagnetic influence.

HPE (Helmholtz Pressure Equalizer) Technology

The very nature of the Concept 90 tower design can introduce undesirable standing waves within the cabinet. An HPE tube design launched in the Concept 500 converts pressure to velocity to eliminate these performance-affecting vibrations and help deliver the ideal frequency response.

The new range retains the signature aluminium front baffle plate that made the original Concept speaker iconic. Gelcore Technology

Introduced in the original Concept speaker, the Gelcore cabinet construction minimises high-frequency noise. A unique design comprised of a non-setting gel sandwiched between two individual layers, this specially developed adhesive also dissipates high-frequency vibrations generated by the moving drivers into heat to maintain a focused audio performance.

Isolation Suspension System

A variation on the hugely effective ‘isolation base’ principle first seen on Concept 300 means the Concept 90 speaker has a suspension system as a sprung baseplate. Suspension ‘spheres’ separate two plates, effectively isolating the cabinet from interference from external vibrations. Providing tighter stereo imaging and depth.

Point to Point Technology

P2P (point-to-point) internal bracing keeps the cabinet as rigid as possible. Firstly introduced in the Concept 500, reinforcement is fitted to interior areas of the cabinet susceptible to low-end frequency reverberations.

Using P2P bracing, finite element analysis, and laser interferometry. The speaker cabinet’s performance is examined down to the microscopic level.

Implementing this state-of-the-art technology.  Q Acoustics has been able to identify and apply bracing to only the precise points of the cabinet that require additional support, dissipating unwanted energy rather than transferring it throughout the cabinet.
