The KEF MUO Will Fill Any Room With Stunning Sound
June’s ‘Product of the Month’ is KEF’s MUO wireless Bluetooth speaker. A scaled-down version of the KEF Muon, designed by industrial designer Ross Lovegrove, the MUO retains its larger relative’s style and build quality in a much smaller, portable way. The MUO is the 2015 winner of What Hi-Fi?’s Best portable wireless speaker £200+, now available at Hifix for only £179.
With an aluminium outer body, the grille reflects the curves of the Muon, giving it a unique and attractive design when compared to its competitors. The MUO comes in a range of metallic finishes, including silver, blue, orange, rose and gold. The speaker connects through Bluetooth on your smartphone, tablet, or other Bluetooth enabled device, bypassing the need for any untidy cables, and keeping the speaker handily portable. The battery life lasts up to 12 hours, making the Bluetooth speaker ideal for use in the garden, on day trips and holidays, or any event needing music. For larger gatherings, two of these speakers can synchronise with a dual-connect mode, so you can place each speaker at either end of the space, meaning everyone will hear the same great sound.
In terms of sound, the KEF MUO holds an update of KEF’s Uni-Q ‘point source’ driver array, miniaturised into portable form. The central tweeter dome is uncoupled from the outer cone using a flexible membrane, allowing the whole speaker diaphragm to move independently, resulting in more accurate high frequency reproduction. The Uni-Q driver means the MUO outputs the same quality KEF-engineered sound, and alongside a powerful bass radiator, the Bluetooth speaker is capable of filling a room with perfect, clear sound in every direction, in frequency ranges far wider than most portable speakers. The result is astonishing clarity and definition across all kinds and styles of music. In addition to the dual-connect feature, two MUO speaker can be connected to create a stereo pair, giving accurate, CD quality playback.
A benefit to Android users is the NFC ‘tap to pair’ function; simply hold your device against the MUO and you’ll be ready to stream music in seconds. Alternatively, connect any source with a 3.5mm auxiliary cable to use the speaker with a wired connection. The speaker has an excellent capacity of 12 hours battery life, and will automatically turn itself off when not in use.
For those of you who love to take their music with them absolutely everywhere, a leather case is available for the MUO, designed to fit closely around the speaker, providing extra protection secured with a magnetic fastener, and allowing you to enjoy all of your music without worrying about any adverse conditions.
Comprising of a sleek, modern design with impressive miniature KEF Uni-Q driver technology, CD quality sound and wide high and low frequency response, the KEF MUO portable Bluetooth speaker has become a firm favourite of the Hifix team.
