Michell has been building quality audio turntables for over 35 years now, which makes us one of the oldest manufacturers still in business. The Michell GyroDec turntable has been around for over 25 years, and even its first incarnation can still be upgraded to the latest status. Michell turntables are precision instruments, built to last, and to reproduce sound as close as possible to the master tape.
Michell turntables clamp the record to a hard platter. This flattens out warps, and it also couples the LP tightly to the platter so that internal resonances can be drained away from the stylus as if the LP effectively is of a much higher thickness and rigidity. The Gyro SE and GyroDec models use a simple clamp to press down the LP record; the Orbe and Orbe SE benefit from a more advanced screw-down clamp and a washer that raises the LP at its centre: under action of the clamp the record's playable area is then very tightly pressed down onto the flat platter, right to its edges.
This motor is a very precise, reliable, and low-noise DC motor that has been selected only after extensive listening sessions and reliability tests. The Orbe models use a version of the same motor with a tacho speed control loop back to the supply. With all turntables, the motor is a stand-alone unit, housed in a heavy base of metal (almost 3kg for the Orbe), to climate vibrational breakthrough to the turntable. The HR and Orbe Controller NC supplies effectively isolate the motor from the potentially polluted mains network.
The Michell Orbe turntable takes the established concept of the GyroDec and adds to it an extra level of isolation, better structural damping, and an improved motor drive system. As of January 2004 the motor controller employs the revolutionary Never-Connected mains isolation circuit Due to the delicate nature of Michell Turntables when shipped they need to be partly assembled to some degree or other, dependant on the model. They do come with full instructions and any advice is available from our sales staff.

The Rega Planar 1 turntable is pretty much a completely new turntable compared to the RP1, the only things kept the same are the drive belt, sub platter and dust cover. It features a brand new RB110 tonearm (which has its bias force preset so it can be set up in seconds) and is fitted with Rega designed bespoke zero play bearings. It's got a 24v low noise synchronous motor which reduces vibration transfer and it is the first entry-level turntable Rega has ever made that includes a motor of that kind. The Planar 1 comes with a factory fitted Rega Carbon cartridge which is a high-quality moving magnet pick-up cartridge designed to be simple to set up, easy to install, and above all accurately reproduce music.
A newly designed Thermoset plinth is available in two gloss finishes, Black and White have a massively improved appearance compared to the old model and the on/off switch is located on the underside in an easier to reach the place. The motor cover tray has integrated cooling meaning the motor won't be allowed to overheat and a brand new 23mm phenolic platter has been included which features a higher quality flywheel effect for improved speed constancy. And to top it all off the feet have been redesigned so vibration transfer is reduced and stability is increased.

- Rega Carbon cartridge is factory fitted
- 24v low noise synchronous motor
