The Bowers and Wilkins 802 Diamond D3 Speakers feature all new and improved technology so they can deliver crystal clear sound to your listening environment. After 8 years of research and development, Bowers and Wilkins have found a better performing core than Kevlar®, and that is Continuum. This is the best cone they have developed yet and that is due to the core reducing and getting rid of the sharp and sudden changes in sound and behaviour that can be heard when listening to music or watching films. The new cones construction means it has a smoother, more neutral sound.
Bowers and Wilkins have changed the crossover from the plinth to the main body of the speaker so the foundation of the Bowers and Wilkins 802 Diamond D3 Speakers is more firm and secure than it's even been. The brand new plinth is now made from a single solid piece of aluminium that weighs in at an impressive 17kg. By having this solid weight at the bottom it helps to counter balance the weight of the turbine head and also lower the centre of mass. You can also switch between castors and spikes easily due to a clever design.
When designing and building a speaker, you want to minimise vibrations as much as you can. The Bowers and Wilkins 802 Diamond D3 Speakers feature their stiffest tweeter enclosure they have ever made. Not only is it held in a solid piece of aluminium, an improved gel decoupling system help isolate what happens due to cabinet resonance. These improvements that might seem tiny means that acoustic detail can reach levels not heard before.
Matrix™ is an internal structure that Bowers and Wilkins use and it comprises of criss-crossed interlocking panels that then keep the cabinets rigid and firm. The changes with the new 800 series are that solid plywood has replaced the MDF and metal components have been added to key stress points to help strengthen and support them.
