5 Amazing Gift Ideas for Dad This Father’s Day, All for Under £500 at HiFix!

Fathers Day Deals  Father's day is fast approaching and what better way to show Dad how much he means to you than with a gift he can truly cherish for years on end? Shopping for Dad, however, can often prove to be easier said than done. What does he like? What does he already have? Does it really show how much you care about him? We're here to help with some brilliant gift suggestions that will make Dad proud. When people think Hi-Fi equipment, they usually think expense, but we're here to show you that this isn't always the case. There are plenty of stunning products (from headphones to bookshelf speakers, or turntables to DACs) that can produce an absolutely fantastic listening experience, all for under £500!

1. Bose QuietComfort 35 Noise Cancelling Wireless Headphones

Quiet Comfort 35 Jump starting our list are the brilliant Bose QuietComfort 35 Mk IIs, the latest upgrade to an already impressive pair of noise cancelling headphones. On our website now, with a saving of £30.95, these babies will allow Dad to block out all the noise and focus solely on his music without having to worry about any interruptions (looking at you, guys), delivering a wonderfully immersive listening experience and remaining comfortable all the while.

A stunning design, ergonomic construction that incorporates memory foam ear cups covered by a soft Alcantara material, along with a rechargeable battery that lasts up to 20 hours, all help to ensure the QC35 IIs will provide a consistently fatigue-free listening experience - no matter how long they are in use. An extra 15 minutes of recharge will provide 2.5 hours of listening time, and a wire is included for those times when recharging is not possible. Noise Cancellation The world-class active noise cancellation technology within the QC35 IIs works by continuously measuring, comparing, and reacting to any outside noise, finding the incoming noises and counteracting them with an opposing signal. Multiple levels of noise cancellation are available, meaning Dad will be able to choose between counteracting some of the incoming noise without missing any important announcements or counteracting every noise in order to relax and enter a world of his own.

These levels of noise cancellation, among other things, can be controlled via the intuitive free-to-download control app. And to top it all off, Google Assistant technology has been integrated, too; which means Dad can send texts and emails, make reservations, change track or alter the volume of his music, all without having to move a muscle.

More about the fantastic Bose QC35 Mk II Noise Cancelling Headphones can be found in our more in-depth blog post (we love them that much!).

2. Rega Planar 1 Turntable

Rega Planar 1 White We've covered headphones, where Dad can sit back and relax with a more personal listening experience, but what about the times he wants to enjoy his music "the good old-fashioned way": by sticking on his favourite vinyl record and revelling in the music the way in which it was meant to be. With the Rega Planar 1, Dad will be able to relive the glory days of vinyl records, with modern day technological advances that will ensure the listening experience is always as good as it can possibly be. And, at only £249, there will be plenty left over for a couple of records to accompany it.

Rega Catridge

The Rega Planar 1 is basically a completely new turntable when compared to it's predecessor, the RP1. The only parts of this turntable that have been kept the same are the drive belt, the sub platter and the dust cover.

A brand new RB110 Tonearm has been included, with a bias force that has been present in order to ensure setup only takes a few seconds and has been fitted with bespoke zero play bearings that have been designed by Rega. A 24v low noise synchronous motor will reduce vibration transfer, and a Rega Carbon Cartridge comes factory fitted as standard and remains easy to set up.

This cartridge will ensure each and every performance remains accurate in its delivery. When constructing the Planar 1, Rega incorporated a newly designed Thermoset plinth that has greatly improved upon the aesthetics when compared to the original RP1. The On/Off switch has been relocated to the underside of the player in order to become more easy to reach.

The new motor cover tray uses integrated cooling, preventing the motor from overheating. A new 23mm phenolic platter uses high-quality flywheel effect for improved speed constancy, and on top of all this, the feet have been redesigned to reduce vibration transfer and increase stability.

You could even buy a record to go with it! Feel free to have a gander at our large range of vinyl records, we have hundreds on the web and thousands in store!

3. Mission LX-2 Speakers

LX2 White What's a turntable without a pair of speaker to listen to it through? The next in our list of perfect father's day gift ideas, at only £133 with a saving of £47 on our website, are the stunning Mission LX-2 speaker. Blending minimalist aesthetics with an astounding performance when it comes to sound reproduction, these speakers are bound to put a smile on Dad's face.

Winner of What Hi-Fi? Awards 2016 in the "Best Standmount Speaker Under £200" category, and the AVForums Editor's Choice Award 2017 in the "Best HiFi Speaker Under £1,000" category, these speakers use Mission's traditional driver configuration and place the tweeters below the mid/bass in order to facilitate time alignment between drivers, thus resulting in improved synchronisation of sound What Hi Fi 2016production via each speaker.

TAV FORUMS EDITORS CHOICEhe LX-2 features a 25mm micro-fibre dome tweeter and a 13cm fibre composite mid and bass driver through a 4th order design single-wire crossover, included in order to achieve very low levels of distortion and guarantee an even response. Calibrated to enhance the off-axis performance, these speakers will maintain a balanced on-axis sound at the same time. The aforementioned crossover comes as a result of persistent trialling over a multitude of components in order to ensure each and every result is optimised to the best of its ability. As impressive in their design as they are in their performance, the LX-2s are housed in a compact wooden cabinet that goes to show how going back to basic design principles when using modern technology and techniques can provide a concrete platform that is integral to the drive units and will therefore produce the best possible result during playback. At only 30cm in height, these speakers will ensure a rigidity that would otherwise not be found in a speaker of their size.

They are also versatile in their positioning options, making it possible to place them in the middle of a bookshelf, or placed upon a pair of speaker stands. However, the LX-2 speakers will perform at their peak when placed close up against a rear wall, leaving a small gap for the rear-firing port to perform at its best, thus delivering a deep bass that will lose absolutely no precision or authority, and time well-presenting changes in momentum without neglecting any subtleties.

5. Chord Mojo Portable DAC and Headphone Amplifier

Chord Mojo Portable DAC and Headphone Amplifier

Unfortunately, Dad can't always be at home. Which is why, last, but by no means least, we have the Chord Electronics Mojo Portable Digital to Analogue Converter (DAC) and Headphone Amplifier; for those times when Dad is on the move. Currently at £389 via HiFix, with a free protective case thrown in for good measure, this portable DAC has been purpose-built for use with smartphones. A massively powerful headphone amplifier that can match a rival DAC at twenty times the price, the Chord Electronics Mojo will ensure crystal clear delivery of all your audio, no matter what type of headphones you are listening through - be those in-ear headphones or large on ear studio headphones. The power button will illuminate to notify the listener which file frequency is being used, from Red for 44.1kHz, Orange for 48kHz, all the way up through the rainbow to bright white to indicate DSD.

Mojo FrontDesigned to drive two pairs of headphones simultaneously and features three different high-resolution digital inputs: Optical to 192kHz, and USB and RCA (Mini-Jack), which operate up to 768kHz. Charging is a doddle thanks to the new advanced high-temperature battery technology that has been integrated within. This technology allows for faster charging at only four hours, an amazing achievement when considering that is almost 20 hours faster than other DAC devices. Charging will not impede the listening experience, as you can connect via a standard USB port to charge, whilst still listening through your headphones.

This fantastic device may be little, but its performance is larger than you could ever imagine, making it the perfect gift for Father's Day to keep your old man happy when listening to his music on the go.
