A loudspeaker cable should be seen as a complete unit with the connectors. The science and engineering of loudspeaker cable doesn't stop with the cable itself. To perform as the designer intended, the cable needs to have the very best connector type, as sound quality can be adversely affected by using inferior connectors. This is why QED developed Airloc, a solder-free, airtight cable-to-plug connection.
Airloc is QED's specialised loudspeaker cable termination system. Put simply, this is the best quality termination method we have found to use with all loudspeaker cables. Airloc is the definitive way to terminate cables. It uses a very high pressure square crimping system to create a seamless fusion between cable and plug. This maximises contact area to the point where air is excluded from the join, thus forming a cold weld between the two metals. This reduces contact resistance and ensures long term performance.
Available in the Airloc range are three types of plug, 4mm banana, wide spades and standard spade which will fit most combinations of speakers and amplifiers. Each Airloc plug is enhanced to fit all QED cables by providing shims which effectively reduce the cable entry hole from 5.5mm cross section to 2.5mm. The range includes both 4 mm Banana and spade termination.
QED provide 3 models of termination, the APNX 4mm Plug, the AS2X wide spade and the AS1X standard spade.
Please note that this range of plug require special fitting tools, and as such are tailor made in our workshops, they should be ordered at the same time as your cable choice to enable us to make the correct configurations. Please use the Extra Info Box to specify what termination configuration you require or telephone our help lines.
