I do sometimes sit back and think a out the sort of people who use forums. I don't know how many categories there are of people who frequent forums, but lets have a go.
At the bottom (nothing derogatory), you have those who have genuinely joined up for some help. They then have to unwittingly deal with the rest of the following 'types'.
Next up are those who joined up, got hooked (like people do with Facebook), and whether they know anything or not, they'll try to help. Most of their knowledge is amassed by reading forums.
Then you have those who think they know absolutely everything, and couldn't give up forums if they tried. Its a daily obsession, and they've amassed a vast amount of knowledge in the same way as those I have previously mentioned.
There are those that are not only experts in connection with the forum subject, but they're experts on absolutely everything in the world. Scratch that - universe. If anyone mentions any subject, they know all the ins and outs and act like they have a degree in it. They're the annoying ones who point out that something you joked about wouldn't work because of the attached algorithm.
Then there's the dealers, who are mainly there to sell boxes. Most of them don't know half as much as the ones who think they know everything, but that doesn't matter, because as long as it plugs in with the right cables, its a perfect match.
Then you have mods, which I won't go into, other than to say they don't know anything about any of the subjects either, as they're there for their moderation abilities. Supposedly.
So there you go. Forums are full of people who don't know anything. I mean, what sane person would join a forum full of people they don't know and ask serious advice of complete strangers? At least those that write to Dear Deirdre have a face to put to the name of the person they're about to ask about their impotency problem. I bet they wouldn't ask strangers on a forum about that!
(And just to point out, that was a bit of fun, before anyone is offended because they feel they fit one of those categories!)
