And they might need some subtle repositioning after they've fully run in, in case the sound changes,....

I reckon too.... :D

Might be why the slight adjustment seems to have openned them up to how I thought they sounded a while back??

Might be my imagine playing tricks on me......but the detail on offer now is superb...

That's just one of their strengths - for me it's also the fact that the UniQ driver brings together the usually separate horizontal axis's/axises/axii of the HF and the mid/bass driver in most other speakers to a single axis, providing more pinpoint stereo imaging (and great for effects placement for AV), which you can sit closer to as you'll not hear the HF and mid/bass coming from two differnet points.

To be fair the 700 or 900 would be to big for that room

I'll order them direct :)

I'll have a spare Q300 though - might see if anyone on AVF needs it.

I would suggest trying it....writing an amazing review about how good the Q300 is as a centre speaker, then see if anyone wants/needs one.... :D

Well, I'll receive them Tuesday/Wednesday, and they'll need time to run in - I suppose I could do a running review of the package, and then a comparison....

There's been a bit of interest so far - and it'll be even more interesting if it goes the way I think it'll go....

You really rate these speakers against your £3k (right?) set up???

Absolute bargain if they do?!!!!

Am I correct in thinking the Q300's offer more bass extension than the Q500's, due to cone size? (Just curious, not thinking of changing!!! )

Well I've always felt for a long time that nothing came close to mine - no hi-fi speakers have ever had the same balance or presentation. FOr the first ime, withe amount of detail these Q's chuck out, I think they've got a chance. It might turn out that they're not as good as what I have, but if they can do 80% of the MK's for their rrp (675 for 3), then that certainly is a bargain, and gives people the chance to own a serious AV system for relatively little money in comparison to the big expensive stuff.

With the Q300 and Q500, it's swings and roundabouts. The Q500 has a larger cabinet volume, which in theory allows deeper bass, but they're sealed, which sacrifices depth for evenness and speed. The Q300's have a larger cone area as far as the UniQ is concerned, but the extra bass driver of the Q500 should make up it. The port of the Q300 will allows e depth than if the cabinet was sealed, but will become a little more erratic in it's bass output, so this will be down to whether KEF have been able to control that.

The reason I'm choosing the Q300 is that it means I can have Q300's across the front (other than they're a similar size), keeping the same arrangement as I have now, which also means a fairer comparison. I might just fit the Q500's in, but I want the larger cone. If the KEF's can match or beat the MK's for detail, but sound fuller and more natural with it, then that's something that most people would prefer.
