FNDMNTL – Subduction

Subduction was the debut 2004 instrumental album from FNDMNTL, a three piece ‘band’ producing “deep-dub-downtempo-soul, acid jazz and hip-hop”, using “guitar, percussion, programming, bass, turntables, and samplers”, producing “encompassing beefy instruments, fat filled bass lines, sharp traps, and sugary sprinkles of tasty programming.”

I found this on my usual gROUSe Last.FM station. FOr the past few months it’s been throwing up the same stuff, but it came up with the track ‘impatient for toast’, so thought I’d check them out to see if the rest of the album was as interesting – and it was! This might not be to everyone’s taste, but for those that like this sort of thing, you’ll love it!

Hands Upon Black Earth

Hands Upon Black Earth are based in the US, and I’ve not been able to dig up much about them after stumbling across them on Last.FM, so here’s a quote from Magnatune.com:

“Solid, sensual, organic, electronic music, timeless and multi-layered, seamlessly interwoven with live instrumentation, and rooted in diverse and complimentary musical genres. Respectfully grounded in tradition, but pursuing the freedom necessary to break new ground, hands upon black earth is another step in the evolution of electronic-based music.”

Goldmund

I’ll probably get some stick for this one, but came across this one due to searching out Goldmund after seeing them in the credits for Martyrs.

To most solo piano music there’s no rhyme or reason. It changes tempo, intensity etc in a similar way to a movie, almost like it’s telling a story. This album is different. This has structure, more like a modern pop song, and a repetitiveness which is soothing and relaxing, making it an extremely easy listen, and none of the tracks are overly long.  And I’m not exactly a fan of piano music. See what you think.

Track And Field – In Search Of…..

Similar to Fila Brazilia with a hint of the Beastie Boy’s The In Sound From Way Out.

Kalpataru Tree

Come across this while listening to my usual group of internet radio stations….it’s now my most listened to album over the past month.

Nice and laid back stuff – the album’s called Scattered Fragments Of The Eternal Dream. It’s not available on CD unfortunately, only download. Visit www.kptree.com and click on MUSIC, then on the PayPlay option, which will take you to a 192kbps download of all 9 tracks of the album, a decent 75 minutes worth for only $7.92, which works out around £5.30 – BARGAIN!!

You can hear them on Napster, but I’d recomend the higher quality download mentioned above, as Napster is only 128kbps.

Warp Technique

Came across a track on Radio Schitzoid last night, which was from their album Make Animals Happy. Apparently classed as ‘techno dub’. You can sample tracks from the cdbaby site
